[FNAF2] Free-roaming: Why it will not happen. (self.fivenightsatfreddys) submitted 1 day ago by DJVee210 It seems like quite a few people want free-roaming mechanics for FNAF2. I'm here to tell you why it's a poor idea, and why it is impossible even if it wasn't. The engine does not have the capabilities. Scott's engine of choice is Clickteam Fusion 2.5. This engine is 2D-based and is completely incapable of 3D aside from some rudimentary effects (as seen in FNAF1). Based on what we've seen of FNAF2, it can be reasonably assumed the engine is once again CF2.5, and the same limitations are applied. Now, Scott could indeed learn a new engine, but learning a new engine takes a great deal of time, significantly more than many people here are thinking. It would take at least 1-2 years before FNAF2 was in a showable state if this was the case Free-roaming is completely and utterly antithetical to the design principle of FNAF. The game's greatest asset is the uniqueness of the design. You don't go looking for the bumps in the night, they come to you. You are helpless in an entirely different way, one that has never really been explored to this magnitude. To have the guard get up and walk around amongst the deadly animatronics like a dumbass is not only stupid for the reason I just posited, but completely destroys what makes the game great and interesting to begin with . Myst style free-roaming would negatively affect the gameplay Yes, Myst-esque roaming around could be possible, I suppose, but why? Myst was slow. Plodding. Puzzling. It was an entirely different experience. FNAF's pace is significantly faster, quite possibly too fast for that style of gameplay to mesh well. It would bog the entire experience down and do nothing to improve it otherwise There exists a fan-made free-roaming alternative. If you really, honestly want to walk around the pizzeria, there is a GMod map of the place waiting for you to explore. It's pretty nice. You can even walk around during the "night mode" and get spooped by the scray animatronics. They force hallucinations and promptly scoot back to square one. Neat! However, it eventually becomes boring, because it removes the unique qualities of the original game. What's to be scared of now? You can bypass the entire night by standing in the corner of the eating hall. Fun? It's been done. Really, really, really done. I know, this is repeating a point, but it's really got to be said. Before FNAF, the only other thing in this "genre" was...what, Night Trap? Even then, NT didn't do it well. If I wanted to go get scared by spoopy mysterious things that are out to get me in the dark, I'd go play freaking Slender. I play FNAF because it is nothing like that. I don't understand why people want it to be like literally every other horror game Okay? Can we come to terms with this now? For crying out loud, the newest tagline is NOWHERE TO RUN and exactly one place to hide. More likely than not, you're not going to be free to move about the entire cabin. You're not passing GO until 6AM. You're not collecting $120 until Friday Accept that the sequel is clearly being built upon what made the original great and...well, different from everything else on the market. If you want scary things popping out at you while you're moving around, Slender: The Arrival just released on PS3
