>Videogame sales dropped because it was the last year before the new consoles, and when those finally came out, they had barely any games.
>Sony's financial problems come mainly from their television department
>Wii U isn't doing much worse than the other consoles. In fact, it sold two million more so far than the Xbone.
And apart from all that, even if the console market crashes (which I highly doubt), there is still mobile gaming and pc gaming. What we will see (and are already seeing) is the big companies either going for the yearly minor iteration, developing smaller indie-like games, or going for those huge money-sweepers like GTA or Destiny. Things are played out much safer thann they were back in the 80s. Things are shifting constanly, devs leaving studios and building new ones, publishers either switching their focus or going bankrupt, and others taking their place. Unless we will get nothing but utter crap for the next 24 months (and even then, people might be still stupid enough to buy shit), mainstream gaming (I assume we're talking about EA, Ubi, Activision, etc.) will survive.
Yup, I hope we have a new Ps2, GameCube era. There has been an uprising in various obscure or niche genres thnaks to PC, but console gaming has become kind of stagnant with Nintendo curiously standing out. Still we need to focus less on hype like Destiny or Titanfall.
