They're not as smart as adults (generally), but that does not necessarily make them incapable of coherent thought. Considering the adults in question here are actually too stupid to understand his point, I'd rather give this supposed 12-year-old the benefit of the doubt.
Oftentimes a dumb child will turn out to be a dumb adult and an intelligent child will be an intelligent adult. It shouldn't be a surprise that an intelligent child can be more intelligent than dumb adults.
