Also, remember that jedi and sith are basically always using the force to guide their lightsabers anyway. They are, after all, weightless, being made of light, and so a non force user swinging one around in a fight would easily cut themselves in half by mistake, which is why the most we ever see a non force user swing a lightsaber is when Han uses Luke's to cut open the tauntaun in Episode V. Knowing that, it makes sense that the same level of care this guy has to dedicate to the lightsaber anyway can be easily extended to the crossguard.
