What I have learned from supporters of #GamerGate: .Gamers are forged in the fires of bullying and are resistant to attempts to control or dominate both by outsiders and insiders We cannot rely upon an industry to reform itself. The people who own the microphones will fight you at every step. Gamers come from a wide variety of backgrounds, and the only unifying characteristic is a love for gaming. Gamers aren't good people or bad people by virtue of their hobby. Attempts to label and dehumanize gamers are fundamentally in conflict with basic human discourse and sets the stage for abuse and violence. If we cannot reform a "small industry" like videogames, what hope do we have for solving big problems? Every person's actions matter. Even games bloggers' actions. .Basic ethics standards will help women and other groups traditionally seen as outsiders to the industry to build their careers in a more equitable and fair environment. Basic ethics standards help to protect workers from exploitative actions by employers against workers. what I have learned from those who oppose #GamerGate: There are people who hold positions of power in the media who think that the video games industry needs a version of the Hayes Movie Production Code under their control to further regulate speech in video games. Calling people terrorists, rapists, murderers, bigots, sexist, and pissbaby is a legitimate way to participate in a conversation The existence of online trolls can be used to prevent a debate that cannot be won. (ie: basic ethics standards in an industry) Actions of individuals cannot be criticized unless the critic can pass an arbitrary litmus test of acceptability It is acceptable to demand women and minorities expose themselves to online harassment using photographic evidence to prove they are real. You cannot be a feminist unless you hold to a specific list of political positions Blacklisting, which Progressives fought against during the 20th Century is now an acceptable action to threaten people into not disagreeing with me. Absolutist statements such as, "You're either with us or you are against us," normally mocked for using faulty logic, are now considered acceptable in order to threaten people and organizations.

X Journalists would make claims of people like Anita Sarkeesian "playing video games all her life" when she openly admitted many times she is not a gamer and only starter recently (when it wasn't for an interview). Various developers trading sex or money for good reviews got exposed, journalists who accepted got exposed. People became a bit more critical about supporting a game just because the developer has a victim complex stating tat their game could have only failed because of sexism, instead of their own poor developing skills. What really sealed the deal was opposition often faking their own harassment. Anita sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn have been caught multiple times screenshotting "harassment" while showing that the harrasser's account name in the login. Or when someone called the police to help Sarkeesian against a "very real threat" she was posting about, only for police to find the harasser's messages were coming from her IP address.
