Dark Souls had the good idea to still let you use shit (melee weapons) you couldn't handle but very poorly/ineffectively; this could be due to lacking the strength to hold/swing them properly, or the lack of dexterity to utilize the proper technique with which to wield them. Makes sense. You can even still equip caster stuff, both magic and faith-based, but when you tried to use it nothing would happen and you just looked at it like a dumbo because it makes sense that you can't get any use out of them. Then there's pyromancy that only requires possessing the spell and the specific tool to use it.
That's right. I used Dark Souls as an example of good video game logic. DARK SOULS
