You know, it strikes me that if we had her in a show now that show would be absolutely slammed for featuring a character that's "objectified" for not showing her face (while also having an attractive figure, lord knows nobody would raise a fuss if her face wasn't shown and she looked normal or ugly for the rest of her body).
I'll be honest, when I was a kid I never understood the racist implications behind Mammy here, I just always assumed that she was the wife of the house and Tom was her pet/mouse catcher.
