Apparently, the voting system hogs a large amount of the site's resources (from database queries), which is bad enough to make people consider taking it out entirely (at least I hope people who wanted the voting system out wanted it for performance reasons, and totally without ulterior ideological or personal motivations).

You felt generous so wanted to upvote everyone in the post? You can bet your ass the webmaster wanted to slap your shit.

In the end, it was for the good of everyone. For those reasons I think it's actually nice that you're allowed to upvote stuff for a whole year.
