If we were among the very first civilisations to develop and (maybe) succeed, it would be really interesting. It would be pretty cool to see the human empire spread like Justin Bieber fans.

The whole "We're the precursors" thing is definitely interesting, the fact fictional precursors usually die off before the actual "important" races come by notwithstanding.
