“Cleverbot” is an AI robot that will chat with you based on previous conversations. Once you say something to it, it is added to its dictionary.

But this doesn’t mean it spurts random words/phrases when you say something to it; it actually makes a clever response to your sentence(hence the name, “cleverbot”)

This meme isn’t a worksafe meme, mainly because the Cleverbot adds words to its vocabulary. And sometimes, these words are inappropriate ones.

This meme originated on ACC when a user by the name of “SugarCrazy” started a thread about the website. The website quickly gained popularity.

Cleverbot conversations will be eternally saved to your IP address, so any conversation you’ve ever had with cleverbot is saved permanently to your IP address.

Ironically, Cleverbot is familiar with many memes. For instance, if you type “O RLY” Cleverbot will type “YA RLY.” Also, if you type the first line to “Never Gonna Give you up(Rick Roll’d)” it will sing the second line, and you can go through the song together pretty far. You can also type “Chuck Norris” and the bot will exchange Chuck Norris jokes with you.

The Cleverbot has also been known to flirt with you. Whether it be appropriate or not.

Cleverbot was not the first chat bot of its kind, however. For instance, a popular chat bot named “Oliverbot” was very popular in 2004. Oliverbot is still on the web, but low quality compared to other chat bots.

Another chat bot is jabberwacky, which is related to Cleverbot, but less “clever.”

Icogno is a chat bot capable of speech, meaning the words will be spoken through the computer speakers.

But it seems like almost every time a new AI chatter comes out, there’s a flood of threads on 4chan reminding people to do their part so the new AI learns all it’s swears early on. That’s the main reason it knows how to rick roll people, pokemon theme song, etc.

4chan just happens to be more effective when it comes to starting and spreading memes due to its large user base and popularity.
