We'll Be Having Sex With Robots in the Next 10 Years is an article published by the British tabloid The Sun and linked on social media in October 2015. Starting in January 2021, the practice of quote tweeting the post and counting down the time left until the moment humans will supposedly start having sex with robots gained virality on Twitter.
Origin
On October 1st, 2015, the British tabloid The Sun published an article titled "We'll be having sex with robots in 10 years." The article contained a prediction from futurologist Dr. Ian Pearson that specialized sex robots would start to appear in ordinary homes in the next decade and that some people would "enthusiastically embrace relationship-free robot sex as soon as they can afford one — as early as 2025." The original article has since been removed from the website but was archived.[1]
On the same day, the tabloid's Twitter[2] account linked the article. The tweet (shown below) accumulated over 12,200 retweets, 65,000 quote tweets and 44,600 likes in eight years.

On July 20th, 2018, Twitter[3] user @416Bando quote tweeted the image, commenting, "The bible says Adam and Eve not florence and the machine," copying an earlier joke.[4] The tweet (shown below) received over 83,400 retweets and 323,400 likes in five years.
On January 24th, 2021, Twitter[5] user @Bowblax quote tweeted the post, writing "4 more years until I lose my virginity." The post (shown below, left) received over 680 retweets and 7,800 likes in two years. On September 10th, 2021, Twitter[6] user @kirigwi quote tweeted the image with the caption "3 more years guys." The tweet (shown below, right) received over 920 retweets and 2,900 likes in two years.
In 2022 and 2023, multiple quote tweets of the post counting down the time till the predicted time when humans will start having sex with robots went viral. For example, a tweet[7] made by user @luhblix on June 5th, 2022, gained over 62,900 retweets and 569,000 likes in one year.
