“Crazy Mean Baby” (also known as “Angry Baby”, “Evil Baby”) is a popular photo meme that first surfaced in early 2005 on the “SHH! Community” forum at Superherohype.com, according to the now defunct crazymeanbaby.com website. Photoshopped versions of the original photo soon followed and spread rapidly across other message boards, blogs, YouTube and YTMND.

Unclear Origins

As of July 2009, little is known about the baby’s true identity except that she is a girl. If anyone has further verifiable information regarding the original photo, please feel free to contribute to this entry by using “Add Comments” or “Suggest Changes” features. Meanwhile, Crazy Mean Baby’s rise to memetic status can be attributed to the self-titled gallery site (Crazymeanbaby.com), which was created by Superherohype forum users “Duende Verde” and “Anguissette1979.” In April 2007, the site’s domain name seemed to have expired and the site is no longer in existence.

The “Graphic Designer Dad” Story

Common “net-lore” rumored that the child’s father was a photographer and graphic designer. The story goes that he manipulated (“photoshopped”) some of the first “altered” images of the child and published them, along with the original, online. This story continued across the net via blogs and websites with the header “What happens when your father is a graphic designer.” To her surprise, the crazymeanbaby.net webmaster (Anguissette1979) received an email-forward, referencing the “graphic designer” dad story, along with her own watermarked images.
