The Origin of Noooooooooooooooo!
The ending of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith was marked with this catchphrase, said by Darth Vader after he is told of the death of Padme by Lord Siddeous. For fans, this scene was a rather anti-climactic ending for the trilogy, which made it very easy to parody and make fun of.
Use on the internet
To those who are familiar with Star Wars, a ‘Vader Noooo!’ is used to emphasize a situation where other cries of regret or distaste do not fit the magnitude of the situation.
On May 20th, 2005, the YTMND user Redily created the YTMND NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! which depicted a still from the newly released Star Wars Episode III, along with the sound byte of Darth Vader saying the phrase ‘Nooooo!’. Since then the site has accumulated over one million views, and has since been inducted into the YTMND Hall of Fame. Since the creation of ‘Nooooooo!’ many YTMND users have created their own spinoffs, making it a popular fad. Spinoffs include:
- NOOOOler Coaster
- Vader, can you bring me my chapstick?
- Vader turns on the lights
