This meme derives from an episode of the television show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The meme features Pinkie Pie, one of the show’s main characters, being edited into various situations and accompanied by some heavily accentuated “Forever!” in the caption. Since its start, the phrase has evolved rapidly, progressing from a term used in the fandom, to a fully-fledged meme.

Origin

The meme comes from Episode 20: “Green Isn’t Your Color”. A sub-plot of the episode features Twilight Sparkle as she is caught between two of her friends, both of whom want her to keep secrets for them. Revealing the secrets would resolve the main conflict of the episode, but Pinkie Pie continuously appears out of nowhere (from boxes, buckets, and inside a mirror) to tell her that “breaking a friend’s trust is the fastest way to loose a friend, FOREVER!” The sheer randomness and hilarity of her appearances prompted fans to start making image parodies.

Though the phrase only appears in one episode, it is generally treated as one of Pinkie Pie’s catchphrases.
