About
Twilight Sparkle is the protagonist of the Hasbro animated television series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. She is a unicorn (later an alicorn) with a purple color scheme and a strongly studious personality, and is typically portrayed along with the rest of the Mane Six primary cast of ponies.
Origin and Character
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. first premiered on October 10th, 2010, introducing the Twilight Sparkle as its main character. Throughout the show’s earliest seasons, she is portrayed as the mentoree of Princess Celestia, the co-ruler of Equestria, the main setting of the show. She is sent to Ponyville by Celestia in the first episode, where she meets the other major characters. From the season three finale[1] and onwards, she is portrayed as an alicorn after being inducted into the aristocracy of Equestria as a princess.
Twilight Sparkle is voiced mainly by veteran voice actress Tara Strong, [2] with additional singing voice acting provided by Rebecca Shoichet.[3]

An entry for Twilight Sparkle was submitted to the MLP Wiki on December 13th, 2010, which has since been edited over 3000 times.[4] As of April 2015, searching DeviantArt for "Twilight Sparkle" returns 190,000 results.[5] On February 9th, 2013, Youtuber AnimatedJames submitted a video[6] titled "Tails VS Twilight", which has since gained over 10 million views and become one of the most popular videos featuring Twilight Sparkle as a character. On August 4th, 2013, MLP Firefly submitted a compilation video titled "Twilight Sparkle Best Moments" featuring the character.
A canonical humanized variant of Twilight Sparkle was introduced by the film My Little Pony: Equestria Girls, released in 2013, which has since become the most popular depiction of the character in human form.

Twiface is an exploitable image fad based around a peculiar face made by Twilight Sparkle for a split second in Episode 10 of Season 1. It is often photoshopped onto out-of-context images and given captions in the vein of GTFO.
Twilight Spills Chocolate Milk
Twilight Spills Chocolate Milk is a /mlp/ board phenomena simulating the chocolate milk threads. The thread generally ends up with her splitting the milk and gesturing the twiface expression.
Twilicane
Twilicane refers to a golden cane with a caricature of Twilight Sparkle's head on it, introduced in Episode 2 of Season 4 during an exchange between Twilight Sparkle and Discord.
Alicorn Controversy
The Twilight Sparkle Alicorn Controversy was a significant event in the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fandom, centered around Twilight Sparkle becoming an "alicorn", a synthesis of a unicorn and pegasus. The change triggered a significant rift to develop in the fandom between those who supported and those who opposed it, generating large amounts of derivative media.
Twilightlicious
Twilightlicious is a slang term in the fandom, used as an attribute to describe something as amazing or awesome. It originated from a tweet by Twilight Sparkle's voice actress, Tara Strong, in which she performs a short rap with the word at the end.
Republican Strategist Defends Melania Trump's Speech
On July 18th, 2016, Melania Trump delivered a speech in support of her husband’s candidacy for president at the 2016 Republican National Convention. Following the speech, many accused her of plagiarizing portions of Michelle Obama’s 2008 Democratic National Convention speech. In an interview with CNN the following day, Republican strategist Sean Spicer defended Trump's speech by comparing various passages to quotes attributed to John Legend, Kid Rock and Twilight Sparkle (shown below).
"Melanie Trump said, 'the strength of your dreams and willingness to work for them.' Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony said, 'This is your dream. Anything you can do in your dreams, you can do now.'"
Also on July 19th, BuzzFeed[7] published a quiz titled "Who Said It: Melania Trump Or Twilight Sparkle From My Little Pony?" The following day, the Twitter feed for the the late night talk show The Nightly Show posted an image macro of host Larry Wilmore mocking Spicer's defense of Melania Trump (shown below).[8]
