About

Ivor Is Coming is a photoshop meme based on a Facebook profile image of Brooklyn resident Ivor Noyek walking down the side of a picturesque road in upstate New York. Shortly after its emergence online in late November 2015, Noyek's photograph spawned a series of photoshopped parodies mocking the subject's hipster-like appearance.

Origin

On November 22nd, 2015, Ivor Noyek, an Irish-born Brooklyn resident and senior art director of New York-based creative marketing agency Roar Groupe, changed his Facebook[1] profile to a photograph of himself walking down the side of a road in Katerskill Falls, New York while dressed in a jean jacket and sunglasses (shown below, left). The following day, his friend Keith Lawler replied to the post with an edited version of the photo made to look like a poster for a fake Werner Herzog film titled “Street Sailor” (shown below, right).[3]

Spread

On November 24th, 2015, Noyek posted a status update on Facebook[7] announcing he had received 31 photoshops of his profile picture. The following day, the Igor is Coming Tumblr[4] blog was launched, which highlights notable photoshops of the Noyek photo (shown below). Additionally, Noyek began reposting examples from his @Ivor_FTLO[9] Twitter feed.

On November 26th, Twitter use @twe1ve1 posted a photoshopped image of Novek in a scene from the 1994 animated Disney film The Lion King (shown below). In the coming days, several news sites published articles about the photoshop meme, including Mashable,[2] The Huffington Post[5] and Metro.[6]
