The Story
Kitten huffing (cheiramento de gatinhos in portuguese) is an inside joke spread mostly by uncyclopedia . It is mostly like the meme was inspired by the following gif.
On the image a guy appears to be snorking cocaine when suddenly the white stripe reveals to be a kitten.
The joke spreaded claims that huffing a kitten can cause effects similar to drugs such as cocaine.
"Kitten huffing is a controversial practice that has recently been growing as a popular and healthy alternative to street drugs. Despite a long history in Western culture, the practice remains largely taboo. Excessive huffing has been known to produce undesirable side effects, including addiction, damaged sinuses, corrupted brains, which may lead to someone thinking they're something they aren't, and, in some cases, death. It is a general rule of thumb that anyone who huffs more then 3 kittens a day is an addict. Veteran huffers often caution against huffing more than a couple kittens per day as overdosing can be very unpleasant and quite dangerous." – uncyclopedia
According to google insights the meme started and meet his peak between 2005-2006 and lose power ever since.
In brasil the term seems to have spreaded only between 2007-2008 mostly because of the brasilian version of Uncyclopedia called "Desciclopédia"
