About

on and on is an audiotrack from Bandai Namco's 2004 video game for PlayStation Potable Kotoba no Puzzle: Mojipittan Daijiten.[1] This song is one of the popular music resources for MAD videos on the Japanese video sharing service Nico Nico Douga (NND) since 2012.

Origin

The song on and on is written by the Japanese composer Satoru Kōsaki[2] who also writes many songs for animes and video games such as The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, THE iDOLM@STER and Motteke! Sailor Fuku in Lucky Star.

The video that led to a substantial increase in popularity of the series was "Don't call me KokorokokoroKOKOROkokoROKOkoroKOKOrokoKOROkokoKokoro-chan" (Japanese: 小衣こころココロここロコころココろこコロここ小衣ちゃん言うな, KokorokokoroKOKOROkokoROKOkoroKOKOrokoKOROkokoKokoro-chan iu na)[3], posted to NND by a user chas[4] on January 5th, 2012. Those characters featured in this video are from the Japanese TV anime series Tantei Opera Milky Holmes.[5]

Spread

This video inspired many MAD editors and they began introducing this uplifting pop music to their works. And, as a homage to the trigger video, many videos in this series are named by scratching the catch phrase in their videos.

The tag for this series in NND is "on_and_on" because NND separates video tags by space. As of April 2012, the amount of video related to this series on NND is more than 300. [6]

Yanderes are Misunderstood

Yanderes are Misunderstood is a version of the "on and on" MAD remix fad that features Future Diary character Yuno Gasai speaking to and about protagonist Yukiteru Amano created by producer “水先案内人” and uploaded to YouTube by YouTuber TheBestAMVsOfAllTime [7] and later created into a 10 hour version by YouTuber TehN1ppe (shown below). The video has since spawned several derivatives.
