Passion Yara MADs

About

Passion Yara MADs refer to a series of MAD videos featuring Passion Yara (Japanese: パッション屋良)^[1], a Japanese comedian famous for the passionate chest-beating in his comedy routine. This physical comedian had been often used in MADs on the Japanese video sharing service Nico Nico Douga (NND) between 2008 and 2009.

Origin

Passion Yara started his career as a standup comedian in 2004, and his major routine is role-playing a typical host in children television programs with angry face and passionate chest-beating. And because comedy-related TV programs were very trending in Japanese broadcasting stations in mid-2000s, Passion Yara had appeared on many of them with the tide. His videos reprinted to YouTube or NND are mainly taken from those TV programs aired around 2005-2007.

Spread

The oldest MAD featuring him had been already uploaded on NND in October 2007^[2], but it didn't catch an attention due to its cheap quality. NND users finally got noticed his rhythmic chest-drumming and yells go well with MAD's format by a Kirby Sky High remix which was posted on October 20th, 2008^[3] and had earned over 500 thousand page views within its first 3 weeks. Led by the hit of this video, Passion Yara's passionate chest-beating became to be featured in many MAD videos in the first half of 2009.^[4]

However, Passion Yara MADs rapidly lost its momentum by JAME (Japan Association of Music Enterprises) which always removes online parody videos reusing comedians/performers associated with the member companies. Because most of MAD editors gave up resisting against it and became not to use comedians or artists protecting the portrait rights by the association to avoid deletions of their videos around the end of 2000s, Passion Yara faded out from the online MAD video scene after 2010s.
