Postal is a video game series created by Running With Scissors (abbreviated R.W.S) which has been criticized for its violent gameplay.

History

The series was created with the creation of Postal in September 30, 1997. And it was mainly a isometric shooter including some top-down levels with handpainted backgrounds and was more of a survival horror type, where the player controls an insane person (later named The Postal Dude). The gameplay consist of the player slaughtering cops and innocent civilians with a variety of weapons such as flamethrowers and missile launchers.

The sequel Postal 2 was released April 13, 2003 with Postal 2: Share the Pain multiplayer expansion in December 17, 2003, spawned numerous gameplay videos, fan art, mods and fan creations of the game.

Postal 2 was re-released on Steam after being green-lit by the community in November 2nd, 2012.

A third installment in the series, Postal III, was released, but was not as well-received as its predecessor.

Gameplay / Premise

Gameplay revolves around the game's protagonist The Postal Dude, who goes about his day completing tasks for each day such as:

• Buying milk
• Returning a book to the library
• Getting a petition signed by 8 people

The player can achieve all their tasks with or without violence.

Reception

Due to its violence against civilians, the franchise has been criticized for encouraging violence amongst video gamers. It has also been featured in the Black Eyed Peas video Where is the Love?

Despite the popularity of the game among the videogame community, Postal 2 was given low ratings by critics, such as 1Up.com saying Postal 2 isn't funny and Village Voice calling it shocking and unforgivable
