Chris Chan Sonic Boom Protests refers to Sonic the Hedgehog fans' criticism of SEGA's Sonic Boom TV series and video game franchise first started by Christian Weston Chandler, the creator of the webcomic series Sonichu, particularly over the fact that the color of the main character's arms has been changed from peach to blue.

Background

On October 3rd, 2014, Christian Weston Chandler posted a rant to his Facebook timeline (shown below) about how the character Sonic the Hedgehog's arms were blue in the Sonic Boom media franchise as opposed to his more peach color in previous incarnations.^[1] Since the original post Chandler has made several others, as well as preforming acts of vandalism as a form of protest against the change.^[2]

Reactions

On January 17th, 2015, YouTuber Based Tyrone, a side channel of the Fiverr star Gordan Hurd, uploaded a video titled "Tyrone Declares Chris Chan's Innocent" in which Sonic's arm color is discussed (shown below, left). On February 2nd, 2015, YouTuber Blues uploaded a video titled "Sonics Arms Aren't Blue" (shown below, right).

On June 10th, 2015, the Sonic_Hedgehog official Twitter account answered to a question on Twitter if Sonic Boom would have Chandler's infamous fan character, Sonichu, available for play;^[4] to which the account answered that it could be possible if they redesigned him to have blue arms. Within the next 3 months, the tweet gathered over 2,200 retweets and 3,200 favourites.

GameStop Assault

On December 26th, 2014, Chandler entered a GameStop location and proceeded to deface several pieces of Sonic Boom merchandise. After being told to leave, and having been told security would be called on him, he proceeded to use pepper spray on one of the employees before walking out of the store.^[3] The event was recorded and later uploaded to YouTube by user Abby Normal the following day (shown below).
