About
Immersive Faces are instances of strange, highly distorted faces that are made with the Garry's Mod Team Fortress 2 HWM (HardWare Morph) Models originally utilized in Meet The Team videos. They are often meant to show extreme emotion, usually for comedic or creepy effect. This is done by either displacing the Faceposing Sliders in Garry's Mod to ridiculous points, or by clicking the "Randomize Expression" button.
Origin
One of the first Youtube users to take advantage of this in his videos was RubberFruit[1], most of whose videos involve surrealist events.
Spread
His videos gained much popularity through the humor value these faces had, and other instances began to pop up. After growing majorly, most TF2 videos made with Garry's Mod usually have at least one of these faces for comedic effect.
Garry's Mod 13 Update 15
Ever since Garry's Mod 13 Beta's Update 15, Garry Newman decided to find and delete the code that added certain limitations to the Garry's Mod Faceposer tool, which, combined with the already absurd HWM faceposing limitations, brings a whole new level of possible distorted faces to Garry's Mod, as seen in the example below:
Fallout 4
Ever since Fallout 4 has added mods to the Console and Desktop editions, one mod named Immersive Faces shows similar aspects to the animation of the mouth seen in Gary's Mod and Team Fortress 2 videos. This has also given the animation technique a proper name.
