That would be funny if it weren't so sad.

Yeah, this was one of the biggest problems I had with "The Force Awakens". I understand wanting to hark back to the original, but the strokes used were a bit too similar for me to ignore. This is a problem that's very evident in other J.J. Abrams movies (i.e. "Star Trek: Into Darkness" rehashing "Wrath of Kahn"). There's a great irony that the recent "Rogue One" was more of an original story (while being an immediate prequel and deliberate callback to the original series) than the actual sequel series.
