The Bride and the Ugly Ass Groom refers to a photograph of two My Little Pony figurines, one wearing a wedding dress and a veil, paired with the caption. The image, posted to X / Twitter in early March 2024, went viral within the My Little Pony fandom, inspiring redraws.

Origin

On March 3rd, 2024, X^[1] / Twitter user @vokuroooo posted a photograph of figurines of My Little Pony characters Princess Cadence and Shining Armor, the former wearing a wedding dress and a veil and the latter looking disheveled, captioned, "The bride and the ugly ass groom" (post and image shown below, left and right). The post garnered over 11,000 reposts and 78,000 likes in two months.

Spread

Starting on March 4th, 2024, users on X, and later other social media, posted redraws of the photograph. That same day, X^[2] user @weeboobeeboo posted the earliest found notable redraw, with their drawing garnering over 12,000 reposts and 89,000 likes in two months (shown below, left). On March 8th, X^[3] user @meow_boop posted a redraw that garnered over 11,000 reposts and 92,000 likes in the same period (shown below, right).

Also on March 8th, 2024, Tumblr^[4] user absakilit submitted the earliest found redraw of the image posted outside of X, with the fan art gaining over 440 likes and reblogs in two months (shown below, left). On March 9th, X^[5] user @pox_01 posted a version that received over 4,900 reposts and 39,000 likes in the same time period (shown below, right).

The redraw trend maintained popularity on social media through March 2024, with artists posting submissions on X,^[6] Tumblr,^[7] DeviantArt,^[8] Fur Affinity^[9] and other sites. The caption was later used together with artworks of other characters. For example, on April 3rd, artist @fenkko posted an artwork of Genshin Impact characters Tartaglia and Scaramouche that received over 2,100 reposts and 13,000 likes on X^[10] in one month (shown below).
