Also, you're daily reminder that "love and tolerate" was an anti-trolling device and was never meant to be taken literally. And if you want to practice "love and tolerate," why aren't you tolerating people's dislike of canon romance? Tolerance is a two-way street, after all.

And besides, it isn't even really about the relationship itself than the way it's being done in both cases. In both cases, whereas FiM is a show that generally tries to rise above the tropes and cliches of it's peers (girl's television), the relationships concerning both Flash Sentry and Trenderhoof are pretty deeply entrenched in the cliches of FiM's peers.

Again, not so much the romance itself, but what the romance reduces both the story and characters to. Less fully-realized characters who have faced worse and bigger people in a more adult manner and more teenaged girls who declare their lives over or are otherwise spellbound by guys with little to no personalities, or who are ponces.

Really, if one of the mane six got in a relationship with someone like, say, Big Mac or someone otherwise characterized and themselves fully realized, and were to treat it as the adult-ish people they are more often portrayed as and less as blubbering stereotypes of teenaged girls you find on TV, they'd probably be cool with it.
