I remember being really into Evangelion, and I started watching End of Evangelion, and then my mom asked me what I was watching. I explained the basics of it, and then the hospital scene came on. I wasn't allowed to use the computer for a month. Good times.

I liked it and understood it. In fact, it's probably my #2 favorite movie.
