Say you mention this GIF 4 months down the line to somebody and want to find it. This GIF is buried under hundreds of others since then. If you don't bookmark this thing, you have to wade through hundreds and hundreds of images by hand if you want to look at it again. If there are no tags, the most you can search for is by file type and gallery.
