10 Memes That Were Mangled By Their Captions
Picture this: you're sitting around with your friends, and someone tells a funny story or makes a joke. Everyone chuckles: comedy achieved. Then, the next person adds on another quip, and the laughter increases. Someone else tops them, pulling in a callback to something you laughed at together twenty minutes ago, and the group roars with merriment. It can't be stopped now, you think, the momentum is too strong, and so you add in your bit and… silence. It falls flat. It's too much. The joke is played out, adding to it can only make what's already happened less funny. As the conversation continues, you sit alone with your hands in your lap.
These memes are kind of the equivalent of that sort of conversation: everything was funny, until somebody went and added one "joke" too many, and the humor became… less funny. They come from Reddit's /r/comedyhomicide, where jokes killed by overdoing are put to rest. Take a stroll in the comedy cemetery and pay your respects.
