Evelyn Smith Smiling or Evelynsmithhhhh Stare, also known as Brunette Girl Smiling, is a series of image macro and caption memes based on a photo of VSCO girl evelynsmithhhhh (Evelyn Smith) staring into the camera and smiling at a restaurant. The photo is often attached to captions using the "How X looks at me when Y" phrasal template, using Smith to represent a tempting distraction, including the viral examples, "How my car keys look when I drink three whiskeys" and "How the next episode looks at me when it's 2am." The photo was uploaded to Smith's VSCO page in August 2023 and started spreading online in April 2025, becoming the subject of a viral Beautiful Mid meme that month.

Origin

On August 6th, 2023, VSCO^[1] user evelynsmithhhhh posted a photo of herself seated at a patio table in a restaurant. In the picture, she is seen with brunette hair, a light blue crop top or sports bra and white shorts while smiling and looking directly into the camera. She posted another angle of the same setting to VSCO^[2] that same day.

On April 18th, 2025, the X^[3] gimmick account @brunettebmbs posted the first photo of Smith, garnering over 53,000 likes in three months.

That same day, X^[4] user @TheDimitriT quoted the post with a reference to the Beautiful Mid meme, writing, "all a man really needs in this life is a beautiful mid to call his own," garnering over 113,000 likes in the same span of time.

Spread

The image of evelynsmithhhhh continued to spread over the following months as the subject of memes.

On April 23rd, 2025, the Beautiful Mid meme was reposted by Instagram^[5] user deepleaked, garnering over 3,800 likes in three months.

On May 2nd, Instagram^[6] user funnydegenerate posted the image under the caption, "How bad have your bets been lately?" using "bad" in this case to suggest Smith is attractive, garnering over 64,000 likes in two months.

On May 5th, X^[7] user @karenmotherof2 posted the photo under the caption, “Can you show me your high school football Hudl again?” (Hudl is a database for tracking youth, amateur and professional athletes), garnering over 11,000 likes in two months.

On June 5th, 2025, Instagram^[8] user lube posted a meme reading, "How my car keys look when I drink three whiskeys on an empty stomach," garnering over 198,000 likes in a month. It was reposted by the alcohol.memes Instagram^[9] page on July 9th, gaining over 27,000 likes in two weeks.

On July 13th, Redditor u/Rem_Lies posted an alternate version of the whiskey meme reading, "How my gun looks at me when I drink three whiskeys on an empty stomach" to the /r/dankmemes^[10] subreddit, garnering over 27,000 upvotes in roughly two weeks.

On July 20th, the menshumor Threads^[11] page posted the image under the caption, "How the head of HR at my company looks at me when Coldplay announces new tour dates," referencing the story of the Astronomer CEO's affair at a Coldplay concert, garnering over 23,000 likes in five days.

On July 23rd, 2025, 9GAG^[12] user x4r3x posted a version of the meme reading, "How quitting my job, disappearing and travelling around the world looks at me at 10:21AM on a random Monday," garnering over 4,300 upvotes in two days.

On July 25th, Redditor u/Alarmed-Ad-436 posted a version of the meme referencing Pedro Pascal's anxiety touching to the /r/dankmemes^[13] subreddit that gained over 6,700 upvotes in under a day.
