A frequent target of memes, Electronic Arts has lost the exclusive rights to publishing Star Wars games. EA is already in a controversial standing among the videogame community, since its frequently joked that some of the games are "pay to win," or that there's much that can't be unlocked without paying, which frustrates those who are devoted to the gaming experience. In an interview on StarWars.com, Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly described how EA is losing the exclusivity to Star Wars games. In addition, Ubisoft has plans to produce an open-world game set in the Star Wars universe in the near future. The Lucasfilm Games brand is loved and revered by gamers for the titles it created in the past, and fans are cautiously optimistic as they flood the web with memes about their favorite franchise making its way into a new era of gaming.
