Gritty may be ugly and slightly more terrifying than any other mascot in professional sports, but this led to him being widely accepted by the city of Philadelphia, already a bit of a haven for lefty sports Twitter. That Gritty would come to be used to express lefty-sentiments in memes was the next logical step. The perfect storm of circumstances brought Gritty to Antifa, and a ridiculous subgenre of memes was born.
