Summer is nearly here, meaning it's time to shed those jackets and sweatpants and bust out the shorts and T-shirts. Just any pair of shorts won't do though, especially if you're an eligible bachelor looking to turn a few heads. According to social media, summer 2022 is gearing up to be the summer of Hoochie Daddy Shorts, essentially meaning shorts for men that end above the knee. Here's why and what the slang term is all about.

Where Does "Hoochie Daddy Shorts" Come From?

It's unclear who first used the term "hoochie daddy shorts," but it's been popping up online since at least 2011 on Twitter. It's derived from the term "hoochie daddy," which essentially means a "man whore" or a "fuckboy," aka a man that sleeps around.

Hoochie daddy shorts didn't become a common term until around March 2022, when Twitter user @K_Bell8 posted an image of some Nike basketball shorts, writing, "Bout that time."

Posts showing excitement about the shorts became increasingly popular in the following months as men showed off their hoochie daddy shorts, women thirsted for them and others did their best to define what exactly makes a hoochie daddy short. TikToker @thehomiejazz, for example, defined them as shorts with "4-inch seams" that show off a man's thighs. Some people demand they be even shorter. Basically, the more leg you're showing the better — or "hoochier."

How Is "Hoochie Daddy Shorts" Used In Memes?

The term became notably popular on TikTok in April 2022 when user @ron_doug posted a video of a man wearing hoochie daddy shorts as a woman jokingly encourages viewers to cat-call men wearing them. Men are now using the sound to show off their hoochie daddy shorts.

Beyond the sound, TikTokers have been expressing how attractive they find men who wear them and defining the term for those "outside the know" in posts. Outside TikTok, the term has also inspired memes about the kind of people who wear hoochie daddy shorts and tweets sharing similar thirsty sentiments and jokes.
