What Does 'Bogos Binted' Mean? The Viral Meme Explained
Misspelled words, both intentional and not, often become the subject of memes, resulting in notable examples like skamtebord and "I can be your angle". Back in 2018, one of the most popular examples, "bogos binted," was posted to Tumblr for the first time, inspiring an unexpected flurry of memes throughout the 2020s. But what does bogos binted mean? Here's what you need to know.
What Is The 'Bogos Binted' Meme?
Back in 2018, Tumblr user tripropellant made a post imagining a college student unable to understand their professor. The post depicts the professor speaking what sounds to the student like, "ba ba ba bo bo go… be bo be ba bo… bebo? bogos binted?" That March, Tumblr user itwashotwestayedinthewater made a response to the Tumblr post.
In their response, the user shared a screenshot of a text message allegedly from their brother. The user asked their brother, "Hey, just wondering if you got your photos printed?" to which he responds, "bogos binted?" an absurd version of "photos printed." He then shares an alien Emoji to add another layer of confusion. Since then, the post has gained over 100,000 notes on the site.
How Is 'Bogos Binted' Used In Memes?
The phrase "bogos binted" spread across social media over the following years. In 2018 and 2019, people started using it out of context in absurd memes, such as a parody of Ernest Hemingway's six-word short story "For sale: baby shoes, never worn," reading, "For sale: baby bogos. Never binted."
In 2020, the meme really took off as people began posting videos, animations and fan art memes using the phrase in the most absurd ways possible. A lot of the memes feature aliens as a reference to the alien Emoji in the original version of the meme.
