What Does "'Yes Unc' They Say In Unison" Mean? The TikTok Spam Comment Explained
Many studies show that people can be influenced by their peers to adopt certain behaviors, not followed by logic or reason, but on a largely emotional basis. Know Your Meme already posted a full article on fandom culture and its effects online, so the 'Yes Unc' they say in unison meme that has been going viral on TikTok is a great example to explore in this article.
Let's find out how something that started as an internal joke evolved to become a spam comment on TikTok.
What Does 'Yes Unc' Mean?
The "Yes Unc" comment started to be used in early August 2023, as a response to the nonsensical videos posted by TikToker @bamajuice2real. His followers would comment "yes unc" (an AAVE word for "uncle") pointing out the absurdity of his videos by using a deadpan reaction as well as contrasting the absurdity with his seemingly old age.
One of the earliest videos that feature the flood of "yes unc" comments was posted on August 7th, 2023, that followed the thugs / hood vegans / lightskin cheerleader format, centering on Wendy's fries and gaining roughly 1.1 million plays and 136,500 likes in one month (shown below).

Why People Started To Comment "'Yes Unc' They Say In Unison" On bamajuice2real's Videos?
Prior to bamajuice2real's followers flooding his comment section videos with the "'Yes Unc' they say in unison" spam, back in 2018, Twitter (X) users were posting the phrasal template "they say in unison" as a snowclone meme. For example, @tomatoholland used the phrase in a post from January 7th, 2018, gaining over 480 likes in five years (shown below).
That said, going into mid-August 2023, TikTokers continued to comment the phrase beneath bamajuice2real's videos. For example, TikToker bidelliiiiii (@8ballenjoyer) commented on bamajuice2real's video, "'Yes unc.' they say in unison." The comment received roughly 12,800 likes in one month, spawning the eventual meme (shown below).
How Did The"'Yes Unc' They Say In Unison" Spam Comment Evolve on TikTok?
Going into September 2023, the "yes unc" comments began to spread across TikTok in more nonsensical ways. For example, on September 5th, in the comment section of a viral photo slideshow posted by TikToker[7] @literallyme9696, many of the top comments recited variations of the phrase (shown below).
