About

Thugs / Hood Vegans / Lightskin Cheerleader refers to a series of TikTok videos from TikToker @bamajuice2real in which he portrays three characters, a "thug," a "hood vegan" and a "lightskin cheerleader," using props, filters and effects to change himself into each, and predominantly using the phrasal template "How Thugs Eat X / How Hood Vegans Eat X / Lightskin Cheerleader." The videos also used the Lil Baby song "My Dawg." @bamajuice2real started posting the videos in 2023, leading to a series of fan-made parodies in which creators played the same characters, inserting them into different scenarios.

Origin

On August 18th, 2021, TikToker[1] @bamajuice2real posted his first video, which referenced his character "hood vegan," showing how a hood vegan would celebrate his birthday, gaining roughly 236,400 plays and 11,400 likes in two years (shown below, left). On September 18th, 2021, he posted another TikTok[2] that contrasted a stereotypical kid eating Takis and a "hood vegan" eating Takis, gaining 273,700 plays in two years. Soon after, on September 12th, he posted an almost identical TikTok[3] that received roughly 3.8 million plays (shown below, right).

TikToker @bamajuice2real continued his bit going into early 2022, eventually switching to a series of Darkskin vs. Lightskin memes that didn't receive as much engagement as his "Kid vs. Hood Vegan" content. About a year later, on August 5th, 2023, @bamajuice2real posted a TikTok[4] that introduced the "How Thugs Eat X / How Hood Vegans Eat X / Lightskin Cheerleader" phrasal template, contrasting how both ate a "bread sandwich." The video gained roughly 307,300 plays and 40,200 likes in four days (shown below).

Spread

TikToker @bamajuice2real continued his bit going into August 2023, earning millions of plays across multiple videos posted in early August 2023. Each time, he referenced a different food, such as Takis or Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and made the "thug" and "hood vegan" prepare it, ending the video, in a nonsensical fashion, with the "lightskin cheerleader" dancing (examples shown below).

The videos then started gaining parodies from other creators on the platform. The first known parody was posted by TikToker[5] @lazerben1905 on August 7th, 2023, gaining roughly 254,900 plays and 46,100 likes in two days (shown below, left). On August 8th, 2023, TikToker[6] @alpha.pookie posted a similar parody, gaining roughly 340,200 plays and 65,200 likes in one day (shown below, right).
