What Is 'Disneyland Cigarette Night' And Is It Real? The Viral 'Cigarette Night' Posters Explained

A shocking series of what appears to be advertisements for a “cigarette night” at Disneyland is going viral across social media. The images, which show beloved Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh with cigarettes, feel very Illegal Disney and supposedly come from the late 80s. But are they real? Here’s what you need to know.

What Is ‘Cigarette Night at Disneyland?’

At the end of September, a series of posters featuring Disney characters surrounded by and smoking cigarettes stared going viral on X, formerly known as Twitter. The images, some of which show mascots offering cigarettes to kids, seem to advertise a “cigarette night” at Disneyland, where attendees are assumedly allowed and encouraged to smoke at the park.

The original poster, @ShutupAndrosky, claims the ads were made in 1984. The ads are shocking, especially through a modern lens. What’s also shocking is how many of them there are, with the original poster uploading 17 examples. Some people, however, don’t seem to buy it.

Is ‘Cigarette Night at Disneyland’ Real?

Despite the high quality of the images, there is no evidence that Disneyland has ever hosted a cigarette night, even as far back as 1984. The viral images that seem to advertise it appear to be AI generated art and don’t appear online before the viral post to X. Beyond this, the images feature distorted text, suggesting the use of an AI program.
