What Is 'Emergency Intercom' And Why Are They Getting Canceled? The 'Greta Thunberg Fell Off' Drama Explained

The Emergency Intercom podcast is getting canceled by viewers after its hosts made what many are calling a bad joke about Swedish activist Greta Thunberg.
The drama stems from a comment made by co-host Drew Phillips, in which he suggested that the young activist "fell off," sparking the ire of what seems to be some of their most dedicated fans.
So what exactly is Emergency Intercom, how bad was the comment about Greta Thunberg and how are people reacting to the drama? Here's what you need to know.

What Is Emergency Intercom And What Did They Say About Greta Thunberg?
Emergency Intercom is a podcast run by hosts Drew Phillips and Enya Umanzor. The podcast has grown a steady following over the past few years, with many praising the co-hosts for their relatability and humor. Recently, much to their viewers' excitement, they returned from a month-long hiatus.
But in their second show back, Drew Phillips made a joke about activist Greta Thunberg that many fans found unacceptable.
About 36 minutes into the show, Phillips joked that climate activist Greta Thunberg "fell off." For context, Thunberg has been doing activism in support of Palestine regarding the Hamas-Israel conflict and was even arrested at a protest recently.
The two continued to joke about her "fall off," with Umanzor commenting that she "doesn't see her" online anymore and Phillips calling Thunberg a derogatory name for women — further fueling the backlash.
How Is Social Media Reacting To The 'Greta Thunberg' Controversy?
The joke did not land well with the Emergency Intercom audience, especially with viewers who support Palestine. The co-hosts quickly became the subjects of criticism online, with one viral post calling them "tone deaf."
Many have since called them out for criticizing an activist who is still actively protesting and advocating for different causes, even if she hasn't had a "viral moment" in a while, with many suggesting that Thunberg is being silenced online for her support of Palestine.
One TikToker shared the theory that Enya Umanzor and Drew Phillips are losing their reliability as they become more popular, which he claims is what got them their audience to begin with.
Now, people are digging through the hosts' content for further things to criticize them about, while others who already disliked the show are taking the opportunity to jump on the hate train and pick apart every aspect of their careers.

How Did Enya And Drew Respond?
On April 4th, 2025, a statement about the controversy was posted to the Emergency Intercom Instagram page. In the statement, they say that the comments they made about Greta and Malala were "reckless" and go against the spirit of the podcast. They apologize to their fans and admit they weren't familiar enough with Greta's recent activism for Palestine.
