Where Does The "TBH Creature" Come From?

In January 2021, Twitter user @acmeiku posted a meme where a poorly drawn outline of a dog-like creature with big eyes asks viewers if they're up for a game of Identity V. Additionally, the user posted the original drawing of the creature, a similar sketch with the letters "tbh" next to it.

Then, a year later, Tumblr users took the meme, cropped the creature and started reposting it on the site, with one user named rennegan commenting "so obsessed w that thing it's like the spokesperson for autism" in a post that gained over 12,000 notes.

Over the course of the month, Tumblr users started imagining the creature in different scenarios, doing things like caring for its young and hanging out with crewmates from Among Us. They also began using the drawing as a template, giving TBH different looks and costumes.

How Is TBH Used In Memes?

TBH is most often used as a sort of "paper doll" template, where users photoshop and draw new looks onto the character. Whether it's putting him in a cowboy outfit or drawing him as the protagonists from Sonic the Hedgehog, TBH has been reinterpreted in hundreds of different ways in the past few months. Other memes imagine the creature in its natural environment, which is more often than not a grassy field where it can interact with crewmates from Among Us.

As the Autism Creature, the character can often be seen showing support for autism-related causes and making lighthearted jokes about the disorder. TBH is often shown with Ashbie Moon, another popular character in memes depicted as an autistic girl.
