Back in July 2022, Tumblr users started the Let's Take Ibuprofen Together catchphrase, which features a series of memes where an anime character holds out their hand and asks that the viewer takes the Ibuprofen with them.

This time around, however, Ibuprofen can apparently regenerate missing body parts — at least that’s what artists think the medicine does, according to several redraws featuring a character in a dire state asking for Ibuprofen.

The "Do You Have Any Ibuprofen? I Got a Headache" meme, an absurd redraw format that references the commonly used pain-relieving medicine, has been spreading online since late 2022. But where does it come from and what's the joke here?

Let’s explain the origin of the "Do You Have Any Ibuprofen?" meme and how it grew to become a viral TikTok sound by late 2024.

Who Started The ‘Do You Have Any Ibuprofen?’ Meme?

In case you're unaware, Ibuprofen is a widely used anti-inflammatory drug that helps alleviate pain, reduce inflammation and lower fevers. Commonly taken for headaches, muscle aches, arthritis and other conditions, the over-the-counter drug has been referenced in numerous memes over the years, joining the ranks of meds like Benadryl.

The "Do You Have Any Ibuprofen?" meme was initially created by iFunny user Kyodo, with the artwork gaining its earliest known repost in November 2022 by another user known as futalolicock_2018. This repost garnered significant attention on the platform, helping the meme to initially take off.

Over the following years, various artists across platforms like X, Tumblr and Reddit contributed their redraws and adaptations based on the original meme, often adding notable anime characters to their creations.

How Is the ‘Do You Have Any Ibuprofen?’ Meme Used Online?

The meme’s online usage has evolved since it was first posted in 2022, sparking edits, redraws and other memetic formats on social media.

Users often incorporate the character's medical request into various contexts. For example, in February 2023, X user @Heartbreak_Juan posted a piece of art inspired by the meme.

Later in 2024, Redditor u/Aruynn_da_ASPD_being posted an image macro to the subreddit /r/MinecraftMemes using an edit of the original meme that replaces "ibuprofen" with "beef" under the caption, "Healing in Minecraft be like:"

The meme has been widely referenced in various online communities, including gaming and anime fans on TikTok, who created a viral sound using the same catchphrase.

For instance, in November 2024, TikToker @webrrsevfrr posted an animation using the meme's voiceover in which the Pokemon Pikachu loses half its head in battle.
