TikTok wants you to ask your man to "Name a woman" in a new trend that's sweeping the internet. Legend has it, if your man doesn't answer with your name, then you should start a fight (just for fun).

Similar to the precursor Roman Empire trend, this bait question for boyfriends, husbands and fiancees is designed to test a man's loyalty and hilariously outline his simple-minded manhood. A secondary part of the trend is that men often answer "Hillary Clinton," which outlines a strange thought pattern in the minds of modern men.

So, where did this trend start? Who invented the concept and why is it resonating with women today? Let's explain.

Did 'Billy On The Street' Start The 'Name A Woman' Trend?

Yes, the concept for the "Name a woman" trend was inspired by a clip from comedian Bill Eichner's famous street interview show Billy on the Street. The scene in question is from season 2, episode 1 of the show where Eichner asks a woman he calls "Yoga mat" to "Name a woman."

Hilariously, "Yoga mat" struggles to namedrop a single woman for reasons still unknown. The question has since become one of Eichner's most well-known clips, finding virality on TikTok via reposts to this day.

Who Started The 'Name A Woman' Trend On TikTok?

The trend started late last month, when Twitch streamers Ludwig and Hasan Piker were on a podcast called The Austin Show. Ludwig asked the podcast host to "Name a woman," to which he responded "Hillary Clinton." Ludwig used the moment to prove a point of his: that men seem to always answer the question with the former First Lady's name.

Later on the same day, a TikToker named @taniatotanesmartinez tried Ludwig's theory out on her husband who (luckily for him) answered the question with his wife's name and not Clinton's.

The moment inspired @taniatotanesmartinez to post a secondary video in which she urged her female followers to ask their men the question and if they didn't respond with their name, then they should "start a fight."

This guy wins this trend. If your man doesn’t say your name when asked if he can name a woman, dump his a$$. 😂

Similar to the "Roman Empire" trend, the "Name a woman" trend is popular because it gives women the opportunity to humorously test their men in the hopes of inspiring viral engagement. It's a social game that they can play with their male partner and, maybe, brag about their boyfriend's answer to their friends.

Already, #nameawoman has over 36 million views on the app. For anyone looking to grow a following online and possibly gain influencer status, hopping on the "Name a woman" trend right now while it's fresh could prove to be fruitful.
