What's The 'Where's My Dad? I'm All Alone' Meme? The Viral TikTok Trend And Its Origin Explained
A viral video from TikTok has recently become a meme, showing a theater kid singing "Where's my Dad? I'm all alone" seemingly from the Finding Nemo musical. The boy's holding a puppet of the famous character Nemo, however, everyone knows it's him singing.
The video gained mass engagement a few weeks ago and quickly spawned a greenscreen template made possible with the editing app CapCut. Meme creators have since placed him singing over various backgrounds, inserting him into different memetic contexts.
But who is this kid? Who posted the original video and what are all the memes about? Let's explain.
What's The Original 'Where's My Dad? I'm All Alone' Video?
The original video was posted on July 18th, by the TikTok account @bcctplay, which is run by the Brick Community Children's Theatre (BCCT) in Brick, New Jersey. The kid was part of a then-upcoming musical that the children's theater was performing, namely, the Finding Nemo Jr. musical.
The kid was seemingly the musical's lead, as in, he was playing the part of the lost clownfish Nemo. Inherently, he was singing the song "Where's My Dad?" from the musical's score.

BCCT's opening night for Finding Nemo Jr. is actually coming soon, on August 5th, and BBCT is live-streaming it for anyone who wants a virtual ticket. They announced the update in a recent video, again, featuring the star kid, who appears to be overall nonplussed by his virality.

Who Is The 'Where's My Dad? I'm All Alone' Kid?

What Do The 'Where's My Dad? I'm All Alone' Memes Mean?
Like many viral videos, the rise of "Where's My Dad? I'm All Alone" was dependent on the willingness of people to caption it, exploit it and take it out of its original context. The theme that the memes stay consistent on is the concept of someone desperately looking for their dad and being "too small" to be anywhere on their own.
In turn, people pair it with captions that pose scenarios where needing one's dad is necessary, such as when at the mechanic, paying taxes or chopping wood. In these situations, having a knowledgeable dad is super helpful, prompting one to sing out, "Where's my dad? I'm all alone."

How To Make A 'Where's My Dad? I'm All Alone' Meme
In order to make one of these trending memes, one needs to have a greenscreen template. Below is a greenscreen template that's available for download. Once saved, take the video to an app like CapCut and locate its "remove background" function. The app should take away all of the green, leaving you with just the kid singing.
From there, add a background and a text caption. As stated, the predominant route to a viral meme is by posing a dad-dependent scenario. But if you think of something else that's funny, go for it.
