About
LMNOP refers to an internet slang term that's a different way of saying LGBTQ+. LMNOP is a reference to the alphabet where the letters follow each other. LMNOP is commonly used among LGBTQ+ internet users as a humorous substitute for the latter, though many also use it in a dismissive way to mock them, similar to "Alphabet People." Though it appeared in this usage online as early as 2011, it notably gained traction on TikTok in April 2025 following a video of a mom taking her son to Costco, in which the comments were calling the son "LMNOP." The slang term was also significantly popularized by stand-up comedian Karlous Miller in 2020.
Origin
It's unknown when "LMNOP" was first used online in reference to the LGBTQ community, however, the earliest known tweet mentioning it alongside "community" appeared when Twitter / X[7] user @ihate2minaj used it in a tweet telling someone to "go back to the LMNOP community," which received no engagement.
The slang acronym received notable media attention in June 2016 when actress Lea DeLaria from Orange Is the New Black said in an interview with Pride Source, "LGBTQQTY-whatever-LMNOP tends to stress our differences."[8]
In 2020, stand-up comedian Karlous Miller did a routine on Boogie’s Comedy Slam, hosted by former NBA player DeMarcus "Boogie" Cousins. Miller did a routine on the "LMNOP community," which was shared on YouTube[1] on August 10th, 2020, gaining over 511,700 views in five years (shown below).
Spread
On December 25th, 2020, TikToker[2] @letsgrow4sho reposted Miller's routine, gaining over 61,500 likes in five years.
