Like many memes post the 2010s, this one too first got its legs on 4Chan. One anonymous user took to the /s4s/ forum to post about K-On! character Yui, writing, "look between t and o on your'e key bored." The unfortunately spelled sentence pointed to the letters Y, U and I, forming the character's first name.
It took X user @KeionDaisuki_01 to point out that the "look between X and Y on your keyboard" trend started with this K-On! centered thread.
How Did The Look Between X and Y On Your Keyboard Become A Meme?
The meme first migrated to Twitter in April 2024, with X users @LoDthesecond and @Aniwolf33 making posts related to K-On! and My Hero Academia on April 17th and April 19th. While the first tweet aped the format of the original 4Chan post that kicked off this trend, the second post focusing on the space between "U and P on your keyboard," which showcased the initial letters of Izuku and Uraraka's name from My Hero Academia.
Even Redditors got in on the trend as April progressed, with user /u/gamecatz posting a parody of the meme to /r/animememes on April 20th, saying, "Look between H and L on your keyboard," to point to a "JK" or "just kidding" on your keyboard.
