Social media influencer and model Gracie Bon was nicknamed the "Biggest BBL in Miami" this week, after she appeared on a livestream with Kick streamer Adin Ross. But new fans are just learning that the Panamanian model actually has a condition called lipedema that makes her so curvy.

Although Bon is making viral waves this week, this isn't her first time in the internet spotlight.

Last year, she went viral for her petition to airlines to create bigger seats for plus-sized passengers. Her video documenting her travel struggles was engagement fodder on Twitter / X and elsewhere.

But, who is Gracie Bon? Where did she come from, and why has she gone viral again? Let's explain.

Who Is Gracie Bon?

Gracie Bon, 28, was born in Panama in 1997, according to Famous Birthdays. She has a condition called lipedema, which Bon has said she's had all her life. It adds excess cellulite to one's arms and legs, usually.

She's talked about her condition at length on her YouTube channel and other outlets since appearing online five years ago. In one video from last year, she talked about growing up insecure about her body.

In the same video, Bon also talked about how her life changed during the COVID-19 Pandemic, when she got out of a toxic relationship and decided to start posting content online.

Her story lines up with the timing of her first Instagram post, which was shared in September 2020. Since then, her following has ballooned to over 10.4 million followers.

Her videos and selfies are largely responsible for her fan base. It's safe to say she knows how to work the social media grind, as her figure is objectively eye-catching, and mixed with her heartfelt story about her condition, it makes for a strong narrative that the internet wants to follow or know more about.

What Is Gracie Bon's Condition?

As stated, Gracie Bon has a condition called lipedema. According to the Lipedema Foundation, it's a condition that affects mostly women, giving them larger limbs caused by a buildup of fat.

Although Bon has leveraged her condition into an influencer career, she's admitted that it causes her physical pain. Symptoms of lipedema also include bruising, pain and tenderness.

Having lipedema also means that Gracie Bon's curves are all natural. On her Instagram, she's joked about people thinking that she has a "BBL," but that's just not the case.

What Is Gracie Bon's Airplane Seat Petition?

In February 2024, Gracie Bon gained a significant following after she posted a video of her boarding an airplane. In it, she stated that she has to buy two plane tickets whenever she flies. She then demonstrated her predicament for the camera.

She used the video to leverage a petition for larger seats in airplanes. With airplane seats getting smaller, according to outlets like the Los Angeles Times, perhaps Bon's message could be accepted by non-plus-sized passengers as well.

Bon, however, has also received some criticism for her video. "This is not normal, you're not the average size," wrote one commenter on her video. "Therefore, you're not going to be catered to … you choose to have your body this way."

The commenter, and many others like them, were seemingly assuming that Bon's weight was either caused by neglect or paid for with a "BBL" surgery. If so, they were mistaken.

When Was Gracie Bon On An Adin Ross Livestream?

Gracie Bon went viral again this week when she appeared on a Kick stream with Adin Ross and Brazilian streamer Tota.

Other male influencers like Charleston White and BenDaDonnn were also present, the latter of which went viral on Twitter for clips of him picking up Gracie Bon and letting her sit on him.

The viral tweets nicknamed Bon the "Biggest BBL in Miami."

Gracie Bon's figure and the reactions to it, seen in the stream, sparked critical quote-tweets in the following days from users who used Bon's likeness as a symbol of degenerate beauty standards.

"This is what the 12-16 year olds of today are watching instead of Disney channel. We're in for a terrible future," wrote one X user in a viral post.

This week, more than others from recent memory, has been marred by plus-sized women discourse online, with the other example being Erin Marley Klay's bikini photos.

Also known as X user @erinmhk, Klay posted images of herself in an orange, floral bikini a few days ago and received a slew of backlash from users telling her to try a different diet and lose some weight.

But overwhelmingly, others flocked in to support Klay. "Men will really see divine creatures and get mad for NO reason," was a point made in one viral quote-tweet.

Perhaps it was the setting of an Adin Ross stream and the misnomer "Biggest BBL in Mimai" that didn't earn Bon the same defense in some of the viral discussions lately.
