Freakybob, also known as Freakbob, is the Freaky meme to end all 𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 👅 memes.

This freaky version of SpongeBob SquarePants has flooded TikTok and Instagram over the past few months. He's spiking in interest right now because Freakybob is calling internet users, interrupting their "For You" page videos with his "Pick up the phone baby!" ringtone.

What's the deal with this meme? Why is it so popular and who created Freakybob? Let's explain.

Where Did 'Freakybob' Come From?

The original Freakybob meme was posted by Instagram users @softwareupdateios and @splongebob last December. The image showed a deep-fried phone screen getting a call from the character. It gained thousands of likes in a short timeframe.

The meme was posted during the initial rise of so-called "Freaky 👅" memes that show "freaky" versions of characters, as in, characters who are ready to get down and dirty.

𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 memes fall under the umbrella of Papyrus Irony which is a Hood Irony aesthetic that uses the Papyrus font and an onslaught of Instagram filters like Rio De Janeiro. In the original Freakybob meme, his name is written in Papyrus.

Where Did The 'Freakbob' Meme Come From?

The first "Freakbob" is slightly different from the first "Freakybob," although they both follow the same "getting a phone call" format. It was posted in April by Instagram user @freeakbob, using the aesthetic of an older iPhone screen.

The "Freakbob" meme became increasingly common on TikTok going into 2024, arguably more than the original "Freakybob."

Anyone who uses Instagram for memes knows that 𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 memes have oversaturated the "Explore" algorithm. It's hard to scroll for five seconds without seeing Papyrus font and the tongue emoji. In turn, before Freakybob was even well known, some internet users already thought that it was cringe.

That being said, Freakybob is not going anywhere. It's highly prelevant on TikTok's algorithm now, where a whole new squad of meme creators and enjoyers are being exposed to it.

These new Freakbob memes use the "Freakbob is calling" format, showing the Freakbob phone call interrupting videos with the song "Pick Up the Phone" by Travis Scott and Young Thug playing. Also, some of the videos use the Stone Sliding Transition to rotate Freakbob onto the screen using pulleys and ropes.
