About

The Stone Sliding Transition, also known as the Stone Sliding Effect, refers to a video effect that transitions from one image macro to another emulating a large stone being rotated. It comprises of a cube or a block rotation transition with the sound effect of a stone being pushed. The transition is meta because it subverts the digital realm in which memes exist by sounding physical. The first known usage of the Stone Sliding Transition was in a YouTube video posted in 2022. The Stone Sliding Transition became a TikTok meme in 2024 after a Stone Sliding CapCut template was created. Many of the Stone Sliding videos riffed on the Slow Fade-In format and the Freakbob Is Calling meme.

Origin

On May 8th, 2022, YouTuber[1] Cenanden posted a video that started with a Spider-Man Homecoming movie promo for the 2017 NBA Finals, featuring DJ Khaled. [2] When DJ Khaled is shown, the video freezes and then slowly transitions to a When the Function Got Hennessy meme, resembling a giant stone rotating. Over two years, the video received roughly 14,700 views and 1,000 likes (shown below). It is currently the first known video to use the Stone Sliding Transition.
