Haley drawing from the Stardew Valley game

Who's 'Haley' And Why She's The Most Hated Bachelorette On Stardew Valley? How A TikTok Fan Edit Helped The Character's Popularity Explained

Out of all the 12 Stardew Valley bachelors and bachelorettes available – six men and six women, Haley has been labeled the worst love interest contender in the farming simulator by the game's fandom. Why's that?

Ever since the game was released in 2016, fans have been arguing about the things they hate about Haley, mostly focusing on rude and obnoxious behavior in the early game. However, an unexpected PR stunt pulled by Haley's stans in April 2024 is changing the way people perceive the Bachelorette, by inventing a fanfiction in which Haley is secretly lesbian and in love with the "female farmer."

The Stardew Valley fan edit stunt is also helping American singer Chappell Roan go viral on TikTok, as her single "Good Luck, Babe!" (shown below) is the main theme for the "Haley x Female Farmer" videos.

If you're curious about Haley's story and how she is becoming the most desired Bachelorette in Stardew Valley, we'll explain it here!

Who Is Haley in Stardew Valley?

Haley appears in the farming simulator game Stardew Valley, which was released in February 2016. She is portrayed as a blonde girl who's a cheerful, fashionable resident of Pelican Town and one of the 12 bachelors and bachelorettes available for the player to marry (shown below).

Why Is Haley Considered The Most Hated Bachelorette On Stardew Valley?

As the Steam user @Ottofyre said in a forum post titled "Haley Hate," the reason some fans don't like her is that she appears "shallow and useless" in the early hours of the game, adding that players "have to put a lot of effort into seeing another side of her but she's such a turn-off in the beginning that many people don't think it's worth the effort — especially when so many others start off as more interesting and likeable."

On October 7th, 2023, YouTuber @Leapalot posted a full essay video trying to explain why so many players hate the character (shown below).

How To Marry 'Haley' In Stardew Valley?

Haley isn't the easiest marriage candidate to romance in Stardew Valley, as her favorite gifts can be harder to find in the early game. YouTuber @BlaDeSDV uploaded a full guide in February 2022 on how to marry Haley before the first "Flower Dance," which is a Festival that takes place in Spring and provides an opportunity to bond with potential love interests by sharing a dance.

What Is Haley's 'Good Luck, Babe' TikTok Fan Edit?

As mentioned earlier in this article, Haley stan's PR stunt hit hard in early April 2024 and changed the way some players viewed the character. It all started with TikToker @piineapples on April 8th, 2024, when she posted a fan edit animation showing the "female farmer" slowly winning Haley's heart with her gifts (shown below, left).

Haley and "female farmer" fan edits started to use the chorus from Chappell Roan's song "Good Luck, Babe," which quickly became a viral trend on TikTok. One notable example is user @baxbi's video (shown below, right), which was uploaded on April 15th.
