If you've been on your timeline at all in the past week, you've likely seen several different variations of fake Spirit Halloween costumes, with some of them possibly being so well-made that you could have mistaken them for real costumes. If you've been wondering what all the nonsense is about, we got you covered.

Where Do These Come From?

Like most trends, this one started off years before, with a Guy Fieri themed costume that was uploaded to a Facebook group in 2019, called the 'Governor of Tasteville' which is a play off of Fieri calling himself the Mayor of Flavortown.

Fake Spirit Halloween Costume Evolution

These memes first started with direct references to extremely specific things, such as a guy you would meet at a New Jersey club, before the typical watering down of the meme turned it into a 2022 edition of starter packs with how it would just show a generic picture and then list a few things next to it.

This watering down of the meme is especially prevalent when it gets political, in which case the image itself is just a political ad or attack masquerading as a meme, which is to be expected with midterms being in two weeks.
