Know Your Meme's Top-Voted Memes Of 2023
2023 is coming to an end. Now that we're in the final stretch of the year, it's time to look back on some of the big events of the past eleven months, and the memes we've seen along the way. It's been a tough year for many of us, with some of the events happening both in the U.S. and overseas looking pretty bleak, but memes have always been our way to cope and distract from all the bad. Now that we're wrapping up the year, it's the perfect time to focus on the things from 2023 that actually made us laugh rather than stare nervously at the news for hours on end.
2023's memes have been quite memorable, and come in a particularly wild variety. There's something for everyone here, and quite a few reasons for all of us to feel thankful that it's almost a whole new year to start fresh. Of course, some of 2023's memes are better than others. Some are timely, relating to some of the biggest events of the year. Others are just… Well, you'll see. Here are some of the top-voted memes from this year on our site, chosen by our fans.
Don't Forget the Game Controller
Of course, the OceanGate Titan Submarine Incident was one of the biggest memes of the year. For days, the online community speculated on the fates of the billionaires in the poorly-made and poorly-operated submarine, and the bizarre news kept all of us waiting for a resolution.
So They Made a Mario Movie
Not everyone was a fan of the Super Mario Movie, mostly because of the constant online discourse surrounding Chris Pratt's voice. Once the film came out, however, it went over fairly well with audiences, achieving just over 50 percent positive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.
You Guys Are Using DVDs?
The WGA Strike was (and still is) a big subject of discourse this year, and it also set back many new film and television releases, which seemed to irritate many people whose priorities lie with mindlessly binging new content.
AI Has a Tell
AI has grown better and better this year, evolving far beyond the abilities of a typical human. Hilariously, it still has lots of glitches, though. Even if it seems to be gaining sentience, like Bing Chat.
Oof
"I am a surgeon, Dr. Han!" was the biggest meme online for a while this year, since it managed to make us cringe and laugh at the same time.
