Weekend Meme Roundup: Goro Majima Gifts, Moneybagg Joe, Tomato Town Massacre
This weekend was chock-full of memes. Some of these came up organically from content long ago that just happened to get big again, while others demanded the attention of the internet through their own actions. Out of all the memes that were getting attention this weekend, the biggest ones were video game memes Goro Majima Gifts a Watermelon, Tomato Town Massacre and the politically oriented meme Moneybagg Joe.
Tomato Town Massacre
Tomato Town Massacre references the song "Chug Jug With You" in which a squeaker talks about his amazing kill potential while playing Fortnite. In the song, he says that he has 10 kills on the board and wiped out Tomato Town, a location found inside the game. The song itself came out in 2018, at the height of Fortnite's fame, but recently hit a social media resurgence with both posts of people singing the lyrics to it or just images having captions referencing it.
Goro Majima Gifts A Watermelon
Goro Majima Gifts A Watermelon is a still image from the game Yakuza 4 in which the beloved character Goro Majima is gifting a watermelon. The context of it, like all things in Yakuza, is downright silly. The character Majima is known for crazy, wacky, dramatic flair, and humbly gifting a watermelon isn't exactly his style, while being the exact thing he would do. The image itself has recently been picked up for various uses, from the classic bait-and-switch to referencing the gifting of a watermelon in various ways.
Moneybagg Joe
Moneybagg Joe is the name given to images of Joe Biden now that he signed a stimmy package and is delivering it to everyone who qualifies. In a similar thing to what happened with Trump last year and the stimulus checks, the giving of money to people has made them create memes and overly ambitious caricatures. In this case, Joe Biden has been given a Black Twitter makeover as thanks for his contribution.
